“Enigme” and Suza Scalora

February 20th, 2010 | No Comments

So I’m sitting here today working on a bunch of things, and I come across some old music that I haven’t heard in ages. We’re talking stuff that is YEARS old. I had originally written this stuff for my senior recital while I was doing my undergrad work at UL Lafayette.

Wizards and Witches of OberinThe piece is called “Enigme,” and I was developing a serious love for Cirque du Soleil music and imagery at the time. I had come across a book that my good friend Nicole Buras let me borrow by a photographer named Suza Scalora called the “Wizards and Witches of Oberin.” It’s a fictionalized account of a ‘wizard’ who discovers all these ancient magicians who live among us in the modern world. The imagery from Scalora is fantastic, and it provided so much musical inspiration for my work.

You know, it’s years later, but I am thinking I should write her to tell her what an impact her work had on me as a composer. I think she’d love to hear it.

Now, we choreographed a dance to this piece, and made costumes and everything. I STILL owe Candice Ritter for all the hard work she put in on making those costumes. She did a great job! If I can find the video from my recital, then I will post it as soon as I’m able.

Heath

And while I’m thinking about it, check out Suza Scalora’s work at

She just released a new photography book last October called “Evidence of Angels.”

Worth checking out!

Happy New Year!

January 5th, 2010 | No Comments

Happy New Year to everyone!  As we begin the new decade, Heartspark Music is working on several tasks that will be important for your over all music experience. The first of these is making sure that all Heartspark Music is available on iTunes and through Amazon.com! For those of you who prefer to order CDs or music from a site outside of Heartspark, these will be the major distribution chains for our music for the foreseeable future. If another outlet looks promising, we will add it as well.

There are no immediate plans to release an album in 2010 at this time, although all effort will be made to continue the promotion of “Rise.”

Upcoming features on the website include:

  • A new mailing list form
  • links to other artists and content
  • a weekly music review blog \
  • A calendar devoted strictly to Second Life performances

Beyond this, we hope to make additions as we are able. At this time, Heath is exploring several new creative projects involving music, and will update you as time goes on.

Again, happy new year to all!

Yours in Music, as in Life.

“Nina’s Waltz” appears on “Holiday Magic” Benefit CD!

December 4th, 2009 | No Comments

This is from Pete Havey’s Facebook blog! A track from “Christmas” was featured as music for a track Pete put together for a children’s benefit CD! Read more!

Had the honor of creating a story for this year’s Holiday Magic CD – a project that benefits kids in Children’s Hospitals around the country (incl. here in ABQ) spearheaded by my friend and fellow voice artist Jeff Gelder. For every $3 donated, they can create another CD to deliver to kids in children’s hospitals around the country. Please consider donating to this VERY worthy cause! The link is
http://www.holidaymagiccd.com

The story we created was “Jasper the Dancing Snowman”, and my daughter Kara got to play a bit part. The story is narrated by Kara’s mom Jeniffer and written by yours truly. Houston musician Heath Vercher (http://www.heartsparkmusic.com) donated a track that he actually composed last year for a little girl in the hospital, from his CD “Christmas”. The story can be heard on the Holiday Magic CD for 2009, and we’ll be delivering CD’s to kids at UNM Children’s Hospital here in ABQ in December.

If you’d like to spread the word, Jeff (and myself) are available for interviews.

You can also find them here on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/HolidayMagicCD

Rise Releases 11.18.2009

November 17th, 2009 | No Comments

Tomorrow kicks off an important day, musically speaking, for me for the remainder of 2009. After a long, heavy struggle we’re finally ready to push “Rise” out the door and send it out into the musical world to see how it will do. I’ve been waiting on this for awhile, and I am excited to see how this latest project is going to do. For those of you that have supported the creative process this year, I thank you, and I think we will all have something very exciting to look forward to musically.

To coincide with the release of the album, we are doing a few things. Tomorrow starting at 1PM you will be able to stream the music in its entirety from iLike.com. There will also be widgets, music buttons, and other items that you can use to share the music and spread the word about the project. I do not expect this from anyone. It is merely my hope that if you enjoy the music, love what it means to you and your fits into your life, that you will find and share it with people who have a similar need.

On November 21, I will be hosting an in-world (Second Life) listening party and stream from RadioMystic.com. We will be streaming the album in its entirety and I will be talking about inspiration behind each piece. You will also be able to catch that broadcast during the week of Thanksgiving from RadioMystic.com as well.

http://www.radiomystic.com/rise.html

The album will become available from heartsparkmusic.com at around lunch time tomorrow, and as with all my releases, will be the regular $10 in price. It will also be available digitally directly from my website via AudioLife, and a special iTunes edition will be released later in December with bonus tracks.

We will be doing giveaways for the album on Saturday at the online listening party, and a live listening event will be held later in December somewhere in Houston.

It has always been my endeavor to create music that people will use to fill their life. Lifestyle music seems to be the most applicable term here. And so I hope that you will use this music to inspire you in whatever way you feel necessary.

Tomorrow, November 18, 2009 marks the release of “Rise.” I hope you’ll join me on this new musical adventure, and as always, I remain…

Yours in Music, as in Life,
Heath Vercher
