“Enigme” and Suza Scalora

by admin | February 20th, 2010

So I’m sitting here today working on a bunch of things, and I come across some old music that I haven’t heard in ages. We’re talking stuff that is YEARS old. I had originally written this stuff for my senior recital while I was doing my undergrad work at UL Lafayette.

Wizards and Witches of OberinThe piece is called “Enigme,” and I was developing a serious love for Cirque du Soleil music and imagery at the time. I had come across a book that my good friend Nicole Buras let me borrow by a photographer named Suza Scalora called the “Wizards and Witches of Oberin.” It’s a fictionalized account of a ‘wizard’ who discovers all these ancient magicians who live among us in the modern world. The imagery from Scalora is fantastic, and it provided so much musical inspiration for my work.

You know, it’s years later, but I am thinking I should write her to tell her what an impact her work had on me as a composer. I think she’d love to hear it.

Now, we choreographed a dance to this piece, and made costumes and everything. I STILL owe Candice Ritter for all the hard work she put in on making those costumes. She did a great job! If I can find the video from my recital, then I will post it as soon as I’m able.

Yours in Music, as in Life,
